TRANSLATION VS. INTERPRETATION

Sep 152022

What’s the difference? Very simply put: interpreters speak; translators write.
While both require a deep linguistic ability and cultural knowledge in the language(s) and are both specialized fields, oral fluency in a language does not guarantee smooth, concise writing.
The skills, training and brain processes required for each are very different. Generally, translators and interpreters are not interchangeable. Translators are writers; they communicate concepts, not just words, and produce texts that read naturally in the target language.
While interpreters typically take on “live” projects like providing oral interpretation at business meetings, conferences, legal proceedings, etc., translators take on projects that require working in an office on a computer and will typically specialize in certain fields like medical/healthcare, business or sciences.
Successful professional translators not only pay careful attention to communicating concepts in writing, they also skillfully convey the style of the source document and focus on extreme accuracy and weigh the significance of the words they use in their translations.
Is your company or organization working with the Hispanic community in any way (or would like to)? Then you need a professional translator to handle your corporate communications, marketing materials, employment documents and other written communications.
We look forward to the opportunity to earn your business and help you reach a broader audience in their native language.
